Closing the Register (Z-Report)
End of Day Reconciliation
At the end of a cashier's shift, they must prove that the physical money in their drawer matches the sales they processed in the software. This is known as the Z-Report (or End-of-Day Close).
Tutorial: Performing a Z-Report
- In the POS header, click the $ (Close Register) icon.
- The system initiates a "Blind Count." This means the system will not tell the cashier how much money should be in the drawer.
- The cashier removes the drawer and physically counts the cash. They input the total counted amount into the system.
- They click Submit Close.
- The system now compares the counted amount against the expected amount. If the system expected $1,000 but the cashier only counted $990, the system flags a $10 Cash Shortage variance.
Automated Accounting
When a shift is closed, Oishia automatically posts the final consolidated journal entries to your General Ledger, including automatically writing off any cash shortages to an expense account.
